WHG: 1920s/Great Depression Instagram Activity

W.39 Analyze the cultural, economic, & intellectual trends of the 1920s

W.40 Describe the collapse of international economies in 1929 that led to the Great Depression, including the significance of overproduction, unemployment, inflation, restrictive trade policies, and the post-war economic relationships between the U.S. and Europe

*We will NOT be using Instagram for this activity. An account is not required. Students will NOT be creating Instagram accounts or actual profiles for this activity. Please do not create one for this.

DO NOT START THIS ACTIVITY WITHOUT SPEAKING TO ME FIRST!

1. You will each be given a topic or find a topic. This topic will be a key word, person, event, or concept. You can find possible topics on page 3 of the attached PDF below. You will create a profile page and have at least nine photos. Each photo will also be used on a news feed image page.

2. You will create this activity/project in PowerPoint using the PowerPoint template I have provided below. Download that template file.

3. When you are finished with your assignment, you will save each one as a jpeg and email them to me [email protected]

4. Once the profiles and images are posted online, you will “comment” on at least one different photo from five other students. These photos must be connected to your topic.

5. Use Instagram as inspiration.

1. Download and open the Instagram Activity Template PowerPoint file

2. Download and read the 1920s & Great Depression Instagram Activity instructions

2. Research your topic (term, person, event, etc)

3. Find one image different from the first nine that can be used as a profile picture. This image should illustrate your topic as well.

4. Find nine images that illustrate your topic. These will be used on the main profile page and on nine individual photos for the regular news feed. The images should describe your topic and its connections to other topics within the unit.

5. ALL IMAGES MUST BE FROM THE 1920s or 1930s. You must cite all images with the website you found them.

6. For more specific instructions download the two files and read them thoroughly.

7. We will be going over how to use the template and create the images in class on Thursday.
